The main aim of the additional learning needs provision at the school is to ensure that each pupil fulfils his/her potential within a caring, welcoming and supportive environment. In order to ensure that the curriculum is accessible to all pupils, the school provides for pupils with additional learning needs through classroom support within the mainstream and/or withdrawal for small group or individual work. The department is responsible, under the direction of the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator, for ensuring that the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice for Wales is implemented. The majority of pupils with additional learning needs are identified at primary school. Any pupil who is experiencing difficulties with literacy or numeracy skills receives the appropriate support and the school has well resourced rooms used by staff and pupils for teaching small groups and for individual pupil support. There is an excellent working relationship with external agencies such as the Educational Psychologist and medical services.
